Novatlantis
A network for a sustainable future
Novatlantis implements the latest findings and results from research in the ETH domain for sustainable development of agglomerations. Novatlantis is a programme of the ETH Council and research institutes in the ETH domain - Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI), Empa, Eawag and WSL.
From the vision to reality
Through the deployment of highly efficient, state-of-the-art technologies and a network of prominent partners from science, business and politics it is being shown how the 2000-watt-society can be turned into reality step by step. Substitution and more efficient use of materials and energies, combined with an intelligent lifestyle, are the key.
Projects for sustainable urban development
On the basis of pioneering projects in the areas of energy supply, mobility, construction and regional development, Novatlantis together with its partners - investors, industrial and commercial enterprises, universities and authorities - points out viable approaches as lighthouses.
Aim
Novatlantis takes the findings and results of recent research within the ETH domain and applies them to projects designed to promote sustainable development in major urban settlements. By using practical examples, we seek to demonstrate what a sustainable future might be like. Working with researchers and scientists from the ETH domain, we initiate multidisciplinary projects. In partnership with governmental bodies and industry, we run projects which reflect the societal and technical aspects of sustainability. The projects are forward-looking, cost-effective and environment-friendly and seek to ensure that future generations can enjoy a good quality of life. The use of the latest technology helps to guarantee high living standards. Economic prosperity for all is then a guarantee for material and spiritual development. A considerate use of resources and closed material cycles will guarantee environmental integrity. Our vision is long term and our current horizon is 2050.
